Mastery Journal May 2, 2026 #MPR

My favorite assignment in this course was the copyright assignment because it felt the most relevant to real life, especially with how much we all use social media. Copyright is something people don’t really talk about enough, even though it affects so much of the content we see and share every day. Before this assignment, I didn’t fully realize how easy it is to violate copyright laws just by reposting or using someone else’s work without permission. This assignment helped me understand the importance of giving proper credit and protecting original content. Since I’m interested in going into public relations, this really opened my eyes to how important it is to be careful with what I post or share on behalf of a brand or client.

The topic I think will be most helpful for me as a communications professional is intrusion. Before this class, I honestly didn’t know much about intrusion in a legal sense. Learning about it made me realize that even gathering information can cross a line if it invades someone’s privacy. In public relations, where you’re dealing with people, media, and sometimes sensitive situations, it’s really important to know those boundaries. This topic helped me understand how to be more respectful and ethical when handling information.

The knowledge I gained this month has definitely helped me feel more prepared for the communications industry. Even though I haven’t worked in public relations yet, I now have a better understanding of the legal risks that can come with the job. Moving forward, I can apply what I learned by being more mindful about copyright, privacy, and how I use information. Overall, this course gave me a solid foundation and made me more confident about handling real-world situations in my future career.
